“Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It’s that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that’s what the poet does.”

Allen Ginsberg – American Poet

Allen Ginsberg - American Poet
Lars

My own journey into the world of poetry started when my friend, Lars, started writing poetry many years ago. We have the kind of friendship that transcends time and distance, the latter especially important as he lives in Norway and I’m in Australia most of the time. His poetic musings would often move me, without always knowing why. We know each other fairly well and share common values and similar ideas of the “human condition”. So I kind of “get” his writings and have been able to re-imagine his verses from Norwegian into English, a process that goes beyond translation.

It also “pushed me” to take a chance and start writing my own poetry.
